Artist Statement

Thokozani's artwork delves into the realm of dreams, where his narrative unfolds amidst the fluidity of time and space. Within this ethereal dimension, Thokozani's identity merges with a metaphysical setting, a forest adorned with a multitude of flowers and vibrant purple foliage.  In this intricate tapestry of existence, Thokozani finds himself ensnared in a perpetual whirlwind of unfamiliar song and dance. a language expressed not through speech, but through melody, resonating with an enchanting vibration. Embedded within this experience is a profound understanding that being encompasses more than mere humanity, hinting at the concept of a meta-human consciousness.

The symbols and elements utilized in my artistic endeavours carry profound significance. For instance, the cross serves as a meditative focal point, akin to a compass guiding one's journey, symbolizing the human form embracing the essence of existence. The upward-facing triangle embodies masculinity, seeking illumination and enlightenment, while its downward counterpart represents femininity, embracing receptivity and reciprocity.  A horizontal zigzag represents water, while vertical lines evoke light, both essential components I seek amidst my meditative practice. Dots, resembling incisions, serve as markers of gratitude and affirmations, akin to bars and verses of chants. Meanwhile, the circle, drawn in a single stroke akin to calligraphy, symbolizes the yearning for healing and meditation, prompting reflection on the interplay of yin and yang within the creative process.

Thokozani's artwork is deeply rooted in the exploration of memory, experience, and the conscious embrace of vulnerability. It serves as a transformative process an alchemical journey of nurturing and enriching the soul. Through embracing change and evolution, his work becomes a testament to the psychology of existence, a profound exploration of what it means to truly be.

The essence of his work delves into the poetics of existence amidst the otherwise mundane and predictable facets of life. It delves into the introspective journey of exploring what defines humanity, the vulnerabilities and strengths that shape our identity. Each layer of paint serves as a testament to a life lived, with every moment contributing to the trajectory that ultimately defines one's existence.
