In collaboration with William & Pearl Gallery, we are deeply honored to introduce featured artist, the Johannesburg-based Thokozani Mthiyane, and his body of work, A Journey Into Soul Songs, this May 2025, activated by Tanya Weddemire Gallery.
254 36th Street Suite C257 Brooklyn NY
Gallery Hours: Wednesday - Saturday 11a - 6p | Sundays 12p - 5p
The collection of works in this solo show is a call to listen with the heart and remember. It is a celebration of soul, transformation, and the profound poetics of existence. Mthiyane's artistic journey extends across multiple disciplines. Starting with fine arts, he was greatly influenced by South African painters Sfiso KaMkame and Thami Jali in his Cleremont Township near Durban. His interactions with these artists ultimately shaped his future creative path. In addition to fine art, Thokozani also feeds his creativity via the performing arts, as both a dancer, musician, and poet. Music is integral to his work, in particular, informing this current body of work.
A versatile artist, Mthiyane speaks as passionately about his work as an expressionist painter as he does about his experiences as a trilingual poet, musician, and dancer.
