Behind the Scenes: Custom Bar Cabinet process

September 10, 2014 in custom furniture, "ishka designs", behind the scenes, idi components

Besides space planning, nothing gets our juices going more than designing and building custom furnishings.  Luckily for us, whether requested by the client or because nothing exists to suit a space, we often get the opportunity to create a custom piece of furniture.  These pieces tend to be primarily driven by the existing design solution, so a part of them feel very true to the clients' environment and less as a stand alone piece.  Regardless of the motivation, we love conceiving these pieces and having them executed by our talented carpenter and trades.

Some time ago, we happened upon a beautiful piece of mango wood that we knew would serve a great purpose down the line on one of our projects.  Not too long after, we started brain storming on a bar cabinet design for a clients' dining room nook and we knew the time had come to incorporate the mango wood.

Usually the process of sketching and drafting is more than enough fun, but we decided to take the cabinet design into our own hands.  Literally!  So an all day visit to the carpenter resulted in us carving up woods to create the puzzle like surface for the doors.  We would do the geometry and our carpenter, would cut and fit the pieces on spot.  It was like our very own CNC machine :)

All in all, we couldn't be more happy that a transformed plank of mango wood is now the feature element in one of our projects.

Would you like this beautiful piece in your space?  We'd be more than happy to oblige.  Let us customize a similar beauty for your space.  Hope to hear from you soon!

One,

idi
